Columbus (OH) Alumni Chapter

The Columbus (OH) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi was established April 23, 1921.

The charter members were
W. R. Morrison, R. J. Johnston, J. Harmon Wilson, R. S. Sloan, R. C. Minor, W. R. Tyler, L. E. Byrd, R. S. Skelton, C. H. Hunter, S. Lane, G. Williams, W. Doyle, A. Dotson and E. E. Simpson. E. E. Simpson was the first Columbus Alumni Chapter Polemarch.

Chapter History

The 6th Grand Chapter was held in Columbus, Ohio December 28-30, 1916 with Zeta Chapter as hosts.

 

The 45th Grand Chapter was held in Columbus, Ohio December 27, 1955. The conclave was chaired by Attorney. Ray E. Hughes. Brother Hughes was a member of the Franklin County Charter Commission and President of the Civil Service Commission for the city of Columbus, Ohio. The Executive Vice Chairman was James L. Allen. Brother Allen served in every office of the Columbus Alumni Chapter. After his last term as Polemarch he was given the honorary title of Polemarch Emeritus and presented a diamond studded Fraternity Pin.

Brother Robert M. Duncan, a member of the Columbus Alumni Chapter, in 1947 was elected Junior Grand Vice Polemarch, was appointed to the Ohio Supreme Court by Governor James A. Rhodes. In addition to the Ohio Supreme Court, he served as a United States District Judge in the Southern District of Ohio from June 20, 1974 until he resigned on April 15, 1985. Judge Duncan was appointed to the bench by Richard Nixon.

William H. “Bill” Fields, II, is a 1984 graduate of Kent State  University, with a B.A. in Advertising.

 

Brother Fields is a Spring 1980 initiate of the Gamma Tau Chapter at Kent State University and a current member of of the Columbus (OH) Alumni Chapter. He has over 25 years of dedicated service as an officer to Kappa Alpha Psi, having had the honor to serve the fraternity on all three levels. Brother Fields is the only Brother to serve as Junior Province Vice Polemarch, Senior Province Vice Polemarch and Province Polemarch of the East Central Province. For grand Chapter, he has served as Director of Project Development 2009-2011, Chairman, U.S. Census 2009-2011, Chairman, American Cancer Society 2009 - 2011, Chairman, nationwide insurance 2009-2011, and Curator, Centennial Historical Collection 2010-2011.

Today, the chapter remains a viable force in the greater Columbus community due to our programming and events. We will continue to strive to serve the needs of the community.
